#585

The beautiful pamukkale was Kubilay's challenge to us, in his WoGE #584. This was a place I only knew in photos, (although I knew it was somewhere in Turkey). The place to start the search would obviously be Turkey (I wonder why, Kubilay ... ehehehe) and an whitish spot was not obvious but it also did not take long to find ...;)

Now, for another light-coloured challenge ...

This one should be easy but ...

As usual, your goal is to find out the exact location and the geology of this place and, if you are the first, you can have the honor of presenting the next WoGE.
This time I'm calling Schott's Rule! -> Publish time: 2016-02-19/04:42 (GMT+1).

Rules, tips and previous WoGEs are collected by Felix on his blog and a KML file is available with all WoGEs.

    The one kilometer wide crater lake is very acidic, with pH 0.13 in the center of the lake, due to high concentration of sulfuric acid.

    Burning sulfur is the source of the famous blue fire or "neon blue lava".
    Sulfur is also mined around the crater. That may well be one of the least healthy jobs in the world. Daily Mail is rarely a good source for science, but I will make an exception this time: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2218525/The-men-risk-lives-day-mining-toxic-sulphur-active-volcano-just-3-day.html

    1. That's right Ole! I had this spot for a very long time but it had never been the right time until now, after the Kubilay's light coloured challenge ...
      So, will it be a light or a dark spot, Ole?
