Quake Lake was Andrew's challenge - the second landslide lake in a row brought me the similar looks that make me search first in Canada (I wonder why ...) and then in USA - a glad-it-was-the-second-landslide-in-a-row spot that became easier than I foresaw.

Now, stop to the landslide and back to desolate areas ...

As usual, your goal is to find out the exact location and the geology of this place and, if you are the first, you can have the honor of presenting the next WoGE.
This time I'm calling Schott's Rule! -> Publish time: 2016-02-19/04:42 (GMT+1).

Rules, tips and previous WoGEs are collected by Felix on his blog and a KML file is available with all WoGEs.

  1. Today, after seeing this challenge with fresh eyes (yesterday I picked this place after a long work marathon) I realise that ... maybe ... it's a itsy bitsy, little bit HARD, so:

    Is less than 200km (straight line) from one of my previous WoGEs

  2. I don't know the significance other than that it is an area with much earthquakes, Faulted Volcanic Tableland, Bishop California. Exact location: 37°29'7.21"N 118°29'34.94"W

  3. additional: When the Bishop Tuff was erupted 759 million years ago, it formed an essentially smooth and level surface. During the last 759 million years, it surface has been deformed and broken up by extensional and strike-slip tectonics. Normal faulting associated with this tectonic activity has broken the smooth surface of the Volcanic Tableland into a series of very prominent clift-like bedrock scarps. Because of the arid climate, these scarps are well preserved and little modified by erosion.

  4. Don't think I am wrong at this one so I'll post the new one.

    Please don't spank me if I'm going wrong, it is my first attempt. ;-)

    1. You're not :) Congratulations on the first (of many) WoGE-wins!

      (My) Main reason: IGNIMBRITES (yes ... again)
